My students come to school each day to dull, hard chairs grouped around a table. They need more flexible/comfortable seating options to enhance student engagement and learning. Some of the benefits of flexible seating include: students learn best when they have some control over their environment, students learn to take turns and share supplies, students can move around and release excess energy, and when students are more comfortable they are more focused. Some of the seating options that will be provided with this project are wobble chairs, beanbag seats, and exercise balls. All of these options will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning. Tables will be put at different heights so students have the option to sit on the floor, kneel, sit in a chair or stool, or stand. This gives students the choice to decide how they learn best. This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
