In addition to co-teaching, I teach a resource class for students with special needs. I do not have the necessary materials and/or resources to successfully provide them with an engaging and well-rounded education. Currently, we borrow many books, items, materials, etc. from co-teachers and the library, as well as being a frequent customer on TeachersPayTeachers. Many of my students display problematic behaviors and require extra support to assist them in self-regulating and reducing tantrums. First, Then boards, positive reinforcement, and visual schedules would help these students in learning about their behaviors, how those behaviors affect others, and how to better control disruptive and defiant behaviors. Some of these students also have difficulty remaining attentive due to attention deficits. These students would benefit greatly from alternate seating to allow for movement. Literacy is another area which is crucial to a successful education. My students enjoy large group literacy activities, especially when they can participate in the story. Allowing these students constant access to materials and resources such as these would further enrich their learning experiences.
