My struggling readers have lost so much in the past 18 months. They have lost literacy skills as well as social skills from being home during the pandemic. They work hard to read and comprehend text. Students reading below grade level can become overwhelmed and frustrated while learning new skills.
Your donation will help them re-engage with the text after taking a break as well as help my students create lasting relationships.
Brain breaks give them a chance to unplug from the hard work for a few minutes to reset and start again with a clear mind. My students have also been isolated and unable to play with friends and build social skills. The activities I have chosen to request will be used as not only brain breaks, but also relationship and community building tools.
Fidgets improve the classroom experience because doing two things at once allows a child's brain to better hone in on the primary task. Bubble fidgets are perfect for the reading classroom because they are silent so they won't disturb other students. Games and puzzles require cooperation which will build community among my students. Sidewalk chalk will offer the opportunity for fresh air and creativity as our classroom does not have windows.
Students will look forward to reading class as they learn there is fun to be had as well.
