In my room, there are several EL students who require audio assistance. In fact, the newest student in my classroom is a boy from Denmark who speaks nothing but Danish. Although, he now responds to my "good morning!" Many of these students are also low income, so they cannot afford their own set of earbuds. I actually bought a 10-piece set of headphones earlier in the year, but my EL students aren't always the ones to get these headphones. These earbuds would ensure my entire class is receiving appropriate support when using programs such as Lexia, Raz Kids, ST Math, and Scholastic. This would also benefit the students that are easily distracted by their peers and sounds. I believe it would improve behavior. As mentioned earlier, I am working at a brand new school. That said, we do not have sufficient supplies or equipment. We've even run out of copy paper! We started off the year with about 4 balls to share among the TK-8 grades. Although we now have more equipment, I believe that a set of street hockey sticks would be a great addition to our school. Before becoming a classroom teacher, I used to teach PE as an afterschool coach. These hockey sticks will bring excitement on campus for a new sport. It will get our students moving, embracing challenges and working together.
