The items that I am looking for are needed to build a listening center for my kindergartners. I have been given several pairs of headphones, but I don't have a CD player or books sets with CD's. Having a listening center will provide my students with an additional opportunity to listen to a book each day during our center time, thus helping to build the foundation needed to become strong readers. Using a listening center will also strengthen my students' reading skills. Having group sets of books allows multiple students to use the listening center at a time. They will use this center to practice tracking words and turning pages in the correct direction. I work in an urban community and many of my students do not have books at home, or someone to read to them. My students are great kids who deserve to have the best resources to help them grow academically. However, our school district is in a financial hardship and there is no funding available to buy additional learning tools. This project will help to enrich my students' learning and love of literature.
