I am fortunate to have a principal that encourages the arts by adding a new sculpture class to our high school. The kids are signing up for it like crazy, and those that took it this year are thrilled. They created boxes and vases, mugs and faces, they were delighted to see what they could accomplish and proud when they got to use items they made with their own hands. When using clay, there are a lot of scraps, or pieces that dry out. Recycling clay by hand is time consuming and takes up a lot of space. Having this piece of equipment would save time and money by allowing us to reuse more clay. Many students use clay in our program; the ceramics class, the intro to art classes has a clay unit which both have students ranging from those with special needs to talented and gifted. Our art club students learn to throw on wheels, and donate some of their pieces to sell and support the art club and a school gallery night.
