As a Social Studies teacher, I do the best I can to bring history and cultures to life for students. The Internet has made it more enlightening, but nothing is the same as experiencing it. By bringing students to Normandy, their perception of the D-Day battle will never be the same. The same goes for other locations they've only heard about in class. We come from a relatively small, close knit town in Wisconsin, so this would also be a great way to introduce students to brief amounts of culture from around the world. This experience will not only enable students to recognize the heavy costs of WWII, but the way the rest of the world lives each day - all over a fourteen day period. I'm thrilled that students are interested in record numbers - I want to keep it that way and enable more and more travelers each year. We'll see Normandy Beach, the location of the Battle of Bastogne in Belgium, the concentration camp remains at Dachau, Hitler's Eagles Nest, Churchill's War Rooms, and so much more that can't be understood from reading or lecture.
