Having a voice in our world today is of utmost importance. Technology is a great way to help young students develop their voices and share their ideas with others. If our class can get an iPad, along with a recording microphone, the students will be able to create podcasts. These students tried to participate in the NPR podcast contest, but quickly learned that they needed newer and different technology. The idea of making a podcast was very exciting to the kids. They desperately want to share their story of living on small, environmentally conscious island, with the world. The students have expressed tremendous interest in making podcasts next school year. They would like to share information about their experiences on Block Island, reporting the data they are collecting on weekly nature field trips, and what they are learning in social studies--as there aren't too many kids' history podcasts. Having the technology to make podcasts will give these kids, who are literally on an island, an opportunity to be heard. Help me help them realize they matter in this world.
