Second grade is a critical year for students to learn to love reading! I want to provide them every opportunity to engage in rich literature, and to learn to enjoy the experience of reading. Students will have a cozy spot in the classroom designed especially for them to read for pleasure and purpose. The classroom library will showcase all the brand new books so students are empowered to choose a just right book. Students will learn within the first weeks of school which books are most appropriate for their individual reading levels, so they can choose a book at their instructional level. They can practice new phonics, decoding, and fluency skills in partner reading inside their new Book Boats! I can't wait for you to see the final space and be amazed by all the shiny new books- I know my students and I will be thrilled!
