At CMS, our 7th and 8th graders have the opportunity to take Hex Classes. Hex classes promote exploration in different content areas. These classes can range from Kitchen Science to Personal Finance. I have the opportunity to teach a Genius Hour hex class for 7th grade students. Genius hour allows students to explore their own interests and passions while encouraging creativity in the classroom. Genius hour works to spark curiosity in each and every student. The addition of a Dremel 3D45 3D printer would help to encourage and inspire curiosity in the classroom. We have had a lot of interest in 3D modeling and building in Genius Hour and have come to love TinkerCAD programming. This 3D printer would enhance student learning and allow them to create and use their own designs. It would allow for an even more active learning environment. Having and using a 3D printer would also work to increase student interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). It would allow students to gain experience in an area that is just going to continue to grow. Allowing students this chance to explore could turn an interest into a career in the future.
