PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) is a framework for maximizing the selection and use of evidence-based prevention and intervention practices along a multi-tiered continuum that supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral competence of all students. Over the three years we have been implementing the PBIS framework our students have had the opportunity to develop and learn social, emotional, and behavioral expectations that supports their academics. We have seen our discipline referrals and suspensions reduce significantly over the past 3 years. In addition the framework has allowed our educators to develop a positive, predictable, and safe environments that promote strong interpersonal relationships with students through teaching, modeling, and encouraging "STAR BEHAVIOR". The materials in this grant will give us instant rewards that students can use to trade for their "Starbucks", that they receive for their positive behavior. Oftentimes, we don't have enough funding or partners to donate to our school store which then makes the "Starbucks" ineffective. This grant would provide us with another avenue of keeping our students motivated to do good throughout our learning environment. We have found that cookie day, freeze pop day, and popcorn day have all been positive incentives for our students. The materials in this grant will give us an additional source to reward our students as we make our learning community a safe environment for all students.
