Instead of just reading about our history standards, we are going to truly experience them. By implementing two of Lauren Tarshis' "I Survived" novels we will get to see a first hand account during the American Revolution and the Civil War. These books bring history to life. My students will get to experience integrating reading and social studies through novel studies with two chapter books. Students will work in groups to read the historical fiction novel, while documenting the events that occurred in history to summarize the novel with a wax museum presentation of the events in history and the novel. This will allow students to practice their reading skills, communication skills, and collaborate with the whole school during the museum.
