My kids all work most productively in their own unique ways. I want to create dynamic spaces for my kids to work in small groups and also independently within the same classroom. The stools and rugs will give them areas they feel comfortable collaborating in and also give 12 year old students with 1 hour and a half math blocks an opportunity to be mobile and productive simultaneously. The headphones are also a highly needed commodity as I often assign instructional videos and cater online practice to students, and they in turn express that it is hard to focus when they have to lower the volume on their computer or there is a nearby math conversation going on. Lastly, I am very excited to be building a math library. Students do not often associate reading with math, but I find it to be a great opportunity for them to independently explore mathematical ideas and stories that will create new interest in the subject.
