Arthur Read is an eight-year-old aardvark with an enormous fan club. Over 65 million copies of these award-winning books have been sold. Kids love Arthur. I love Arthur. Marc Brown's series has a broad appeal, and the themes contained in the series are not violent, overly sweet or sentimental, or completely mystifying. It's just Arthur. The Arthur Adventure series is interesting and engaging, just what my Special Education students enjoy. Tolerance and acceptance are major themes. The very first Arthur book, 'Arthur's Nose' relates how Arthur, unhappy with his nose, visits the rhinologist to get a new one. We all have been teased, we've all had to make choices, we all feel scared or insecure sometimes. My students can identify with Arthur and with his friends' struggles as they grow and learn through this series.
