The ability to read well not only gives a student opportunity to learn but opens many doors to new worlds. Teaching first grade puts me in the position to make sure that the door is opened to all that wish to enter. Students come into my room with a broad range of skills. Some students are ready to set their teeth into Henry and Mudge or Frog and Toad books, while others need familiar tv/movie characters like Pokémon or Pete the Cat to get them engaged in a book. With these new books, students will be able to have more voice in the classroom. Updating my classroom library allows me to bring more books of interest into my students’ hands. Books that will matter to students and in turn make them want to read. This library update will also encourage after school reading, as students will have more flavor to select from to bring home. Book pouches ensure that those precious treasure travel to and from school safely.
