Reading builds vocabulary, and it is proven that students who read daily do better academically. If I am able to provide them with books they love, the chance of them reading improves dramatically. That is where donors can help. These books will be used by students to check out for independent reading. I have set aside 20 minutes a day for students to read something of their choice. The titles I chose are books that are popular among 5th graders right now, so I know they will appreciate them. Students will have the opportunity to give book talks about these books to their peers to encourage them to read them as well.
