Headphones during class time will allow my second grade students to stop focusing on everyone else and start to focus on themselves and the work at hand. When you stop focusing on the other people around you, you tend to get lost in the work in front of you. They will also be able to work with white noise in the background and this will limit the need to talk to other students about personal stuff during class. Students will have a calming chime sound to signal transitions. Instead of an alarming bell or more teacher talk, the chime sound will signal the time to move to the next learning activity. Students will use this chime to be more independent and self-regulated.
