The 6th grade class will be diving into a whole group book study. This whole group book study approach will help them develop their discussion skills. They will learn to listen and respond to each other while choosing evidence from their reading. The students will also be developing their critical thinking skills as they will come prepared ready to discuss. Along the way, the students may encounter some confusing parts of the book. There will be opportunities to collaborate with partners about teaching points throughout the book. My students are eager to read a whole book together and get new insight from their peers. The class set of the book, Ugly, will help use reading discussion strategies yet, at the same time, students will learn from the theme of the book. They will learn kindness, acceptance, and courage.
