This is the year! 2nd Grade students begin their year at a variety of levels of reading development. Some read at and above grade-level and are already silent readers, while others may be emergent readers who are still working very hard to sound out words - necessitating oral reading for success. Developing silent readers require quiet for concentration and comprehension. This poses a conflict of sorts. Both categories of students genuinely NEED what what they are asking. Sound phones are heavy duty, hollow, plastic "phones" that allow readers to whisper read directly into their own ear eliminating the need to read louder than others. This also affords the developing silent reader a greater degree of quiet, thereby meeting needs of each stage. I have asked for 20 of these, so that each student may have one assigned to him or her. These "phones' can also be sanitized periodically - and will not require sharing (spreading germs). Please help me help them experience a successful transition!
