The magnetic letters, sentence strips, lapboards, and dry erase markers needed for this project will assist the K-3 students who need the individual attention in order to learn their sight words by being engaged in a wide variety of working with letters and hearing stories to bring their neurons in their brain stimulated. Our students live in one of the highest illiteracy rate communities in Cleveland based on the statistics, which indicates it is 86% of the residents in our school zone area. Based on this information, the entire community is at risk of having students continue to graduate from our schools if the students’ reading rates are not improved dramatically over the next 3 to 4 years. The addition to more literacy resources to our Parent/Community Volunteer Room will help to improve our students’ literacy competence!
