Many students consider reading as a boring subject, therefore they lose interest. After collaborating with several teachers, I realized I need to change HOW my students read. A daily DEAR program (Drop Everything and Read) provides my students with much more than a just-sit-there-and-read experience. It gives my students time to read what they want to read, share what they've read, and receive the support they need for further reading explorations and reflections. The new seating options will help implement the Starbucks Mode in my classroom. Students will be able to have flexible seating and alternative lighting during this time to have "coffee shop vibes" as they get cozy and lost in a good book.
