Our students have recently and, very excitedly, began to explore the world of computer coding. Thanks to the free online coding academy, Hour of Code, our students have been able to experiment with manipulating icons on their screen with basic computer coding language. Imagine their excitement when we told them they were CODERS! One can easily see how this buzz turned into a school-wide frenzy of coding. We have continued to search for ways to fan the spark of coding excitement before it is extinguished, and Bee-Bots are the logical next step. Bots such as these clearly demonstrate how coding language can manipulate objects to move, make noise and respond to their programmer. We plan to use the Bee-Bots to demonstrate to students how basic language and programming works in the physical world so they can more fully understand how digital coding translates to moving objects on one's screen.
