Vision screening is an integral part of what we do as school nurses. We screen students from preschool through high school to see if they have a visual impairment. Currently, we are very limited in what we can screen for. We are only able to do distance or Snellen Chart to see if a student has myopia or is nearsighted. We we always find students who fail the vision test and get referrals; we could better serve them if we had better equipment. The SPOT screener is a handheld vision screening device that quickly and easily detect vision issues.
