My Pre-K students love to listen to stories, observe the illustrations and learn so much through books. It is important for all students to read books that have characters from all different races, gender, and cultures. All children should have the opportunity to see themselves inside a story and to see characters that may be different from them.
These new books will help our class learn about others, and help promote respect and empathy for all.
In our classroom we have little storage available. Having a storage cabinet will give me the opportunity to keep our library books organized. It will allow me to have books set up and readily available to use when teaching different units, when specific issues come up in class and at different times of the year.
The use of a cozy cube to read and look at picture books helps students have a quiet place to retreat to in a busy classroom. They can use this space to read alone or with a partner. It is place to get lost in a story, and become independent with books. It will be a space that my students can fall in love with reading.
