One thing my students need is to read books with characters and authors who are as diverse as they are! Many of them don't read because they don't have access to books that reflect their interests or their culture. While our school library has a good selection of ebooks, these are useless for many of my students because they do not have access to the internet or technology at home. My students rarely get the joy of holding a physical copy of a book in their hands. Help my students fall in love with reading again by showing them that their culture or gender is represented in literature and that reading can be an adventure! The main reason I request these books is because I want my students to feel empowered by strong characters and interesting stories rather than discouraged by exclusive characters and boring content. I plan on using these books to encourage pleasure reading, increase literacy by exposing students to different genres, and teach basic literary components.
