I teach three classes of literacy every day. I have 60 students in my room and at least a third of those are reading below a third grade reading level. My school library has books for lower leveled readers, but the books are old and not very interesting. I am trying to spark the love of reading for All of my students. To do that, I need interesting, current books for all levels of readers. I provide time every day during our literacy block for independent reading. Children need time to 'just' read and I need to be able to provide books that all children can access. I have chosen books that are high interest and that show some diversity. Most of the older books available at my school are lacking diversity.
