Our campus opened in 2016. Until February 2019, there has been no library. The majority of the books that we have in our new library are discarded books from the other two high schools in the district. We are in desperate need of new books. The list of books that I have asked for would give my students new exciting titles to choose from. If students are to read, we must provide them with the books they ask for. In our collection, we may have the third volume of a series but not the first or second. I am asking for completed book series so that my students will have immediate access to the next book they want to read. We are using Interlibrary Loan to be able to fulfill their requests but wouldn't it be great to have those books on campus? I can already imagine the smiles I would see to have the books available to the kids. Our library has a lot of growing to do. We were not given a start up budget this year. The students are utilizing the few books that we do have but my hope is that I can acquire new books in order to provide a relevant library program to these kids. Reading is the most valuable skill that students can acquire. I am here to help build that skill. By donating to our project, you will find my students engaged in reading which will help their overall scores and reading achievement as well as provide them with hours of pleasure.
