There are at least three diagnosed ADHD students in each of my classes. My partners and I suspect there are a couple more in each class. That's 1/4 of each class, and they are struggling to keep up with the new Common Core Math standards. The students have trouble maintaining focus. We've had many trainings, and my own son's therapist has mentioned yoga balls help. (My son has been diagnosed with sensory processing disorder, and he has a trampoline at home.) However, it's too much money for me or some of the parents to purchase their own. The school provides us with stiff chairs, and the kids get restless. They then start playing with other supplies. My school is a Title I school. We have many on free or reduced lunch. Some parents do not take their children to the doctor, or are unaware of how to deal with ADHD. Some can't afford or refuse to try medication. Some of the kids don't take their medication regularly.
