Through this book club, I want students to see the different effects the war had on the world. The first book, "Blue" is set here in the piedmont region of North Carolina where many students will be able to relate to. In this book, students will see the difficult trials of the war. In the second book, "Number the Stars", students will see a different side of the war. While students will not be able to relate to the location, reading "Blue" first will give them the background they need to understand that the war affected many people. In our book clubs, we will read, discuss terminology associated with the books, and complete historical fiction book club journals where students will be able to take fourth grade standards and use their comprehension skills to write about the books.
