“Brown Girls Rock” is a yearly event that is held at Cummings to help encourage and empower our Brown Girls to love their brown skin, encourage self–love, and empower their thinking to go beyond what they currently see or where they currently are. In a time where the faces of young black girls are seen flashed across the news for going missing, now more than ever, it is important for girls to develop healthy mental, social and emotional skills.   Cummings is a school located in the heart of South Memphis where some girls experience daily trauma and struggle with low self-esteem. Last Year, I was able to give ever girl in the building a mirror with a note inside saying, “ You are Beautiful” through donations. This year, I would love for each girl and female teacher to receive the book, Becoming by Michelle Obama. I need a total of 250 books. And for my Pre-K-1 aged students, I would like for them to have the Michelle Obama Inspiring Words Coloring Book. 150 books
