Students in my classroom work in small groups (2-3 students) and are grouped by specific areas of need. Each group typically begins by working on sight word activities before beginning their lesson of the day. Students will be asked to work on specific sounds. Groups will say the sound aloud, read the sound within the context of a story and use letter tiles to manipulate moving the each sound to the beginning, middle and then end of a word. At the end of each lesson, students will be asked to apply their new reading strategy by reading non-fiction leveled readers and writing about what they just read.
