Learning and emotions are definitely tied together. Our emotions affect our learning throughout the day. When students feel safe and needed, they are intrinsically motivated to learn. It's my job to help students feel safe and learn to self motivate in different situations. Weighted items are extremely helpful. Many of my young students can not verbalize why they are stressed or upset and sometimes they have meltdowns. Studies have shown that weighted blankets produce a calming effect for students as well as reduce the anxiety they are feeling. Stressed or anxious students (who need weighted items) cover-up or wrap up which help anger, anxiety, stress, etc. diminish. They are able to get back to engaging in school activities and feel more successful!! These wraps/blankets will definitely be used and have a home.
