Allowing students to have the freedom and flexibility of engaging in work while standing has been a proven method to improve cognitive skills and reduce behaviors. Our classroom has traditional seating methods that limit the opportunities for our students to have functional movement breaks while participating in active learning. We feel strongly that the students in our classroom would benefit from the option of having standing desks to complete their work. A variety of flexible seating choices in a classroom allow students with sensory deficits better access to the curriculum.
