I teach a special education, self-contained sixth grade classroom which consists of students who have been diagnosed with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), emotional and behavioral disorders, autism, and specific learning disabilities. I have learned that these students have great difficulties focusing, engaging, and being motivated to learn, more so than their typical-developing peers. They require a lot more attention grabbing and exciting strategies and tools to become engaged and focused in their learning. As a special education teacher, it is my duty to ensure the learning environment is as accommodating as possible for these students with fidgets and incentives. The supplies and games I have requested will allow my students to get the breaks and focus needed. We can work on art skills with the coloring materials. We could also work on important social skills, such as taking turns and sharing with the games and activities.
