My fifth grade class is about to begin a Research Unit about the Civil Rights Movement. Students will begin the unit by learning through literature about what civil rights are and about the movement in the 1960s across our country. Next students will pick a sub-topic and research more in-depth. These books will allow students to research specific people, places, and events of the Civil Rights movement. The more diverse book collection my students have access to, the broader their research will be. Finally, the students will present their sub-topic research project through a variety of ways to their classmates.
