Being from a rural area with little industry, many of our students struggle financially. Even though headphones were a part of our school supply list, some families could not afford to make the purchase. With struggling readers, my students enjoy listening to text as they read. They listen to novels, short stories, cold reads, articles, and educational videos. This aids in word pronunciation, understanding context, and also increases time spent reading. They are also exposed to world wide experiences within the classroom. All of this works together to create a better and stronger reader. Reading is no longer seen as a burden but something that all students with varying abilities can enjoy.
