The use of our sensory corner, in our classroom, is an integral part of our day. My learners are primarily students that have been identified as individuals with autism. My students with autism have the need for sensory input throughout their day in order to maintain their sense of self, in the world. With that being said, having appropriate items within the sensory corner is very important. Due to the wide range of sensory needs, many different types of items are needed in order to meet the needs of everyone in our classroom. Some students like items that are comfy and restrictive such as sitting in a bean bag chair while others prefer soothing, soft lighting that takes the strain off of their eyes. The donation to this project will allow me to creative a sensory rich area, within our classroom, that will meet the needs of all my learners. The addition of a comfy bean bag chair, some soft low lighting, fiber optic lights and a jellyfish lamp/projector will put the finishing touches on our sensory area and help create an environment that will meet the needs of our students, on a daily basis.
