These books will make a huge difference in my students’ learning. Now, they don’t have hi-interest, age- appropriate books on their reading level. They are reading at a 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade reading level yet they are 11-14 years old! Reading is how students become better readers and also learn language, but we do not have age- appropriate books for them that they can read. The books we have now are for young, elementary-aged children and are too “babyish” for these pre- teens and teens. So, they are not reading and not becoming better readers. These books will make reading possible and enjoyable for my students. If they have hi-interest, age- appropriate books, they will take off in their reading! This collection of books are very interesting for middle school students and look like higher level books, but they are at a low reading level so these kids can read them. My students are required to read every night but don’t have the right kind or level of books to do that.
