As a pediatric occupational therapist working in a K-1 building, I am seeing the rising need to meet students' sensory needs to support their emotional regulation, self regulation and sensory needs in order to be full participants in their educational curriculum. Student's today are more likely to go home from school and sit in front of a screen and not go play outside where they climb, jump, play in the mud, dig in the dirt, roll and swing to develop their sensory systems; thus their bodies are less ready to learn. These items will develop a space where students can retreat to throughout their day in order to reorganize and regulate so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with their peers. This space will be available for all students within the school and be a viable resource to the school community.
