My students come from rural communities in Ohio. Many students in my school district come from low-income homes. Their families are often not able to buy the books their children are interested in reading. I have worked hard to provide these students with books, but I could use some help in order to foster their love of reading. The district that I work in has recently seen cuts in both state and federal funding. As a result, the school district does not have the funds to purchase as many books. Being a first year classroom teacher, I have learned so much from my students. They have grown so much throughout the year. Their reading abilities have improved dramatically and their love of reading has been truly inspiring. They have such a love of reading and want to share this love with others. Therefore, I would like to incorporate reading workshops into my class. These workshops will provide the students with the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings on various books.
