The Golden Goblet is our 6th grade literature study. This book is about a young boy (the same age as my students) in Ancient Egypt, a time period we learn about in our World History curriculum. We learn about the tragedies of Ranofers life and how he overcomes the many challenges that have been dealt to him. This is a challenging book for my students to read due to its language, however, each year my students enjoy reading about Ranofer and his adventures. This lit study prepares students for the more complex texts they will read in Jr High. Having their own text that they can mark with notes and stickies helps make their reading more personal. Right now we share the books with 90 other 6th graders, so my students are unable to call a book their own.
