Full-day kindergarten can produce long-term educational gains, especially for low-income and minority students. (Education Commission of the States) Kindergarten is the foundation for the rest of your academic career. A strong start in early literacy and math leads to higher academic functioning in later grades. It's the bridge between pre-school and first grade. For the first time in our history, kids are heading back to school without leaving their homes. There is a class of students who will be starting their academic career virtually. My colleagues and I are coming together to create kits for our students that include both basic supplies and educational manipulatives. These materials will be used in conjunction with our virtual classrooms, so that students can have hands-on early learning experiences. They can't come into the classroom, but a little bit of the classroom can come to them.
