Students need motivation and encouragement to boost them to do their best. With these wonderful incentives my students will be motivated to read during their leisure time and take Accelerated Reading practice quizzes to build fluency and comprehension. We currently use the Renassaince Learning Accelerated Reading program to encourage students to read pleasure books on their current instructional level. Students are given a diagnostic test to determine instructional reading level. Students are challenged to read a minimum of 9 books per quarter. Top 25 students in each grade level are highlighted on a schoolwide bulletin board each week. The girl and boy reader in each grade level that reads the most books are presented with a reward on awards day. Also our ESL students need extra reading practice outside of the regular reading class and this is a wonderful incentive to get them reading for fun.
