Eight and nine-year-old children are very active, like to move around and have a hard time staying in one place for a long period of time. They often enjoy movement and hands-on activities the most. It is hard for most of them to stay engaged while sitting in an uncomfortable chair all day long. I would like the opportunity to offer them flexible seating options that will make them more comfortable while they are learning. I believe a comfortable learning environment will lead to more student engagement, more creativity and ease their focus issues. This, in turn, means more success for all students!
My students love to move around the room and do their work in different places, however, the only options now are either their desks or on the floor with a clipboard. The items that I have chosen for flexible seating would provide the students with many different opportunities throughout the day. The seating would be used in an individual, small group or whole group instructional setting. It will allow the students the responsibility of choosing the option that works best for them as not each student learns the same. I want to provide a learning environment that meets everyone’s needs.
I believe this project would significantly help my students stay engaged in learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable, safe, loved and at home in our classroom. I am excited to see all the things we can do with flexible seating.
