Listening to a book on CD enriches children's multi-sensory experiences with books. When children hear an audio book and follow along with their own copy of the book it allows them to see how the words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way. It helps students focus on the sounds of words without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading. The multicultural books I selected will help my students imagine what it would be like to experience life from a different perspective. Reading books about other cultures help to increase cultural awareness and helps students to become more respectful towards backgrounds and perspectives.
