I teach ethnic studies classes which require the students to take historical concepts and topics and format their own opinions and feelings about how the concepts affect themselves and today's society. I want to create a lounge like atmosphere in my portable that makes the students feel comfortable engaging in more personal conversations. The goal is for the lounge environment to provide them with more comfort so they will be willing to open up in personal conversations about their families, cultures, and opinions. Taking away the typical desks and chairs where students feel confined, should allow them to relax and let their guard down and engage in class discussions. The classroom will be organized into 4 groups with a futon coach, table, and bean bags for the students to sit on and use to create projects. Students will work together discussing the topics, creating videos on flipgrid, and posters on canva.
