My students love to read about kids just like them. For this project, my goal is to gather the books I need for a unit on modern history using memoirs. From the Holocaust to the Bosnian War, my goal is to introduce them to some of the more pressing issues of our modern world in a context they can understand. I want to make history come alive for the students I teach. As part of this unit, students will be split into small groups. Each group will study a memoir written by young people who lived through modern events, including the Holocaust, Civil Rights Movement, and Chinese Cultural Revolution. They will then use that memoir alongside other historical documents to create an in-depth study of the event their memoir is centered around. Your donation goes toward a set of each book I am using for this unit, to be shared between my 4 classes, as well as extras for motivated students who will want to bring books home. My students and I are grateful for anything you are able to contribute!
