My mother always told me that “when you have the proper tools, it makes everything easier,” she was referring to cooking but I believe the same is true in all venues of life. I teach a reading and writing course that is heavily focused on rhetoric. This involves a lot of annotation and close reading which can tend to be a little dry when using pen and paper. When given these annotation tools, I believe the students tend to be more engaged in taking notes, organizing their thoughts, and more enthused about taking ownership in their learning experience. However, we go through quite a bit of these and as the second semester starts it would be helpful to get re-stocked on these basic items as our district will only supply a limited amount at the beginning of every school year.
