Many students with sensory needs can be comforted with items such as; weighted blankets, chair cushions, rubber bands to allow students to bounce their feet, and hand fidgets. Allowing students to feel calm increases the ability to learn. Students have the best potential to take in new information when their cognitive abilities are high. We have students who have ADD, ADHD, Autism, and Sensory Processing Disorders that would benefit from these items. We also want to continue to use the wide variety of tapes we have which provide calming music and social stories to our students. Unfortunately, our tape players no longer work, if we get new ones we can use the supports we already have available at our school. Our Special Education Team at Miami Elementary School along with all of our staff want to serve our students the best we can. Please consider supporting the needs of our students so our kids can achieve and be successful. #miamifamily
