The purpose of this project is to give my students access to books that are age appropriate and on their reading level. As a special education teacher, I have many students who are not fluent readers and who are not reading on grade level. Independent reading is a part of our daily class routine during AM/PM homeroom and ELA. My students are constantly faced with the challenge of choosing a book that is both engaging and on their reading level. I want them to experience getting lost in a book. I want them to be able to escape from their challenges in a book. I want them to find meaning in words and language. By donating to this project you will be helping my students gain access to level-appropriate texts. In turn, this will help promote positive reading habits and positive self-esteem.
